Delicious and Easy Sautéed Rum Honey-Glazed Tofu
Tofu is not an ingredient that is ever on my food shopping list. It just happened that I have been receiving several emails from you my fans, requesting ways more vegan recipes. Some of you also asked for recipes made with tofu. So I hope I am not going to disappoint you with this one.
I have eaten tofu very few times, and each time, it was a different experience. Tofu is bland. So we got the truth out of the way. Now how do we add bold flavors to tofu so that it could be eatable?
Most recipes with tofu seemed to have flavor where either sauteed or fried. Several of them had either breadcrumbs or some sort of batter to fry the tofu. I was not about to spend a lifetime on the main ingredient that takes minutes to cook. And since my cooking agenda included two other sweet recipes with tofu, I decided to create a salty dish.
Butter for sauteeing, gourmet hot sauce for bold flavors, honey for sweetness and rum for a light smokey taste that binds everything together. Doesn’t that sound tantalizing? You must try it!
Sharing cooking tips and anything else about tofu would be ideal for this post, but unfortunately, it is not possible. You are more than welcome to search the web. But I can share with you that it is best to buy firm a firm one packaged in water. It has been known to be more manageable.
I love playing with ingredients, and this recipe is proof. It is easy, and maybe you can impress your vegan friends.
Here’s my new creation, Sautéed Rum Honey-Glazed Tofu
Serve: 1 - 2; Prep time: 5 min; Cooking Time: 7 min; Total Time: 12
5 oz firm tofu, drained and thinly sliced (10 slices total)
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon hot and spicy original with herbs blend
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon rum Barbancourt
Heat a nonstick pan on medium, add butter and melt. Add hot and spicy original with herbs blend and let cook for a few seconds while stirring. Carefully add tofu slices and gently sauté until the sides begin to brown. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per sides or until tofu is cooked as desired. Remove from pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add honey and let melt.
Add rum and stir to mix. Remove promptly once the sauce starts to boil.
Drizzle the sauce over cooked tofu and serve immediately.
